Lehmann, born in Germany, was one of the favorite pupils of Ingres, first in Paris, and later in Rome. The sitter, formerly married to the French critic and novelist Alphonse Karr, had close ties to the German community in Paris.
This 11” x 14” oil on cotton painting is housed in a repurposed antique wood frame. Total dimensions including frame: 13” x 16”
