Sunshine is a portrait of the light which illuminates the studio– the painter’s joy and muse, her wife
The bright greenery spills into the studio through the windows via the sitter’s kimono. This flow designates the muse as an extension of nature and beauty itself, quietly celebrating the sitter’s scarring from top surgery. This work utilizes a traditional realist composition often used by Vermeer to celebrate a contemporary source of beauty and inspiration
